MX 300 or SB Live

I know this is a video forum but I wasn't sure where to put this. Title says it, what's the better sound card and why?

If strictly those two go w/ Live. If you're considering others the TB Santa Cruz and Philips Accoustic Edge are good as well (some would say better than the Live).

Yep I'd go for the Live! for just those two.

Phillips also makes some quality sound cards as MGMorden mentioned.

It's just that I can get a MX300 for a good deal shipped with some other stuff I bought. Does anyone know more about the Via chipset problems in the earlier post. Was it just with MVP3 chipset, it's all I could find.

I've been a running a MX300 in my Duron system for 6 months now without any problems. There is a known problem with Vortex 2 sound cards and the VIA chipset, but I have yet to experience any problems with it on my ABIT KT7 motherboard. I play a lot of games and do sound and video editing on my PC and it's been working great. I'd only recommend the SB Live! because the driver support is still there.

The Vortex 2's have quite a few problems with Via chipsets. A friend of mine couldn't even get his to work at all with his Asus A7v. There's also the face that Aureal has kicked it so there will be no more drivers (and the only drivers they really had working perfectly were the win9x drivers, and that series of OS's is currently being phased out even to the mainstream public).
