MX 1000 Custom AC Adapter

I have a Logitech MX 1000, but the charger for it does not have an ac adapter. My friend who gave it to me said it takes 13 volts, but can work with 12. I have an ac adapter from something else and it's 12 volts, and this may be a dumb question but this isn't my area of expertise. The ac adapter has a male end too big to fit into the female port on the charger, can I wire it to not plug in but still charge?
