Dude!

Just looking through Mwave.com

They're offering All In Wonder Radeon 9600 Pro for $228.45 (even though it's not currently in stock):

Mwave Link

Anybody ever shop at Mwave? Legit? And for an AiW, is that a good price?

I used to shop at Mwave all the time, even still do
sometimes before buying stuff at Newegg.
Before Newegg they were one of the best shops
to checkout for low prices. They're definitely a
reputable seller and I'd recommend them to anybody...
I don't however know anything about a AIW 9600 Pro,
perhaps its something that will be coming out soon?

I'm having trouble getting the link... but if you go to their catalog page, select video cards, and then select "list items from highest price first", you'll find the AiW Radeon 9600 Pro being offered.

Did you happen to go to their actual store in Brea, Ca?

I've been to their new store a couple of days ago. Much nicer than their old hangout. They have about 6 computers to order from, and if the item is in stock, it'll be in your hands in 20 minutes. (No kidding. =) ) Willcall costs $5, but you get the satisfaction of the item immediately at a lot cheaper price than BB.

Mwave is great and so is NewEgg, now if only I didn't hear such scary stories about Newegg...

I've purchase a lot of stuff from Mwave. Their customer service is pretty good. Shipping is pretty quick also to the east coast.

They're actually in Walnut. I've been to their old location but not their new location.

I think AIW products are BAD values, especially to gamers, and ESPECIALLY on a card as mediocre as a 9600.

The reason for this being:

Video technology moves too quickly, and the 9600 is already a fairly mediocre card. Once you upgrade you lose all those great features

If you want all that great stuff go by a seperate tuner card. It should last you for 3 - 5 years +

first of ll, benchmark after benchmark has proven the 9600 is the best bang for your buck. reading a recent hl2 article the 9600p absolutly destroyed even the 9800p in this category (not to say better performance, just better performance:Dollar.) secondly, the aiws are great cards all around. while they offer nothing extra for gamers thats not their intent.

As far as them being 'great cards all around'

that is your opinion

I think they are a bad deal, especially for someone gaming

Besides HL2 is hardly the only game coming out. I'm not going to call a card kind because it runs one game great.

Thanks labgeek.

I think I'm going to upgrade from my original AIW Radeon, not for the graphics, but for the multimedia feature set. Even the highend AIW 9800 Pro doesn't include some of the nifty features this card touts so long as it works properly.

Dual head display
FM tuner
Remote wonder II

I wonder how much will hardware assist in MPEG encoding...

Whatever...

AIW Radeon 9600pro = $225
Radeon 9600pro = $175

There's your $50 difference that the leaktek tuner would cost. Besides, you get the DVD decoder, MMC 8.6, remote wonder II, FM tuner etc... and when you're done with it and ready to upgrade, you sell it on ebay like you would your regular card. BTW, if you feel the 9600 is mediocre, buy the 9800. Bad Values? No way. Leadtek will never give you the range of software that ATI does.

actually, i just checked out newegg. you can get a 9600 pro and the tv tuner ~ $200.

factor in another $5-10 for shipping from mwave and you are looking at a $30-35 difference

But, no other TV tuner in that price range has the video quality of the AIW cards.

If you're trying to keep with the bleeding edge of vidtech, then the AIW cards are a bad idea. Otherwise, you've got a one-slot integrated TV tuner with longtime software support and with the newer cards, bonuses like the remote and tons of I/O ports. The tv tuner/capture software's up to version 8 and ATI throws in bug fixes and features with each generation. Gotta love that. :)

IMHO, if you don't upgrade your vid card every six months, the AIW pays for its value over 1-2 years. I'd love to see ATI make a move with HDTV tuners, though. That would probably be my next AIW purchase.
