mustang, wait until 2005?

OS

Lifer
Let's say if one were interested in a mustang, is a current generation one ok or is it better to wait until 2005 when they redesign it?

What do you mean 'is a current generation one ok'... ?

The 05' Mustang is cool, but sometimes its good to sit the first year out and wait for any undiscovered kinks to be ironed out.

I guess is there anything exceptional about the 2005+ models that's worth waiting for.

I agree Phuz, it's better to wait out the first "teething" year 🙂

Isn't the next Mustang based off the Lincoln LS? I would wait for the next gen Mustang. The current interior is simply too ugly.

One word, FU, potholes 🙁

Who buys a discount performance car for a nice interior?

I'm actually glad the Mustang isn't targeted towards buyers who simply *needs* pretty controllers and buttons, or that wood trim on the dash. Sure weeds out a lot of would be pansy buyers.

Well if you're going to buy a $30k automobile then a couple hundred dollars worth of springs aren't going to kill you.

I don't have a problem with my dad's 02 GT's interior. For all that your getting for $20k I think its pretty nice. The new platform should be a lot better than the outdated one used now but I wouldn't say there is anything wrong with the current one. Its just old. Whether you buy an 03 or wait I guess depends on how big of a hurry you are in for a new car. You could always buy one now and trade it in for an 06 and skip the first year bugs. You will probably lose a bit with depreciation but you will have had a fun car for 3 years. Might want to hold out a year or two anyway to see if they wise up and atleast offer the IRS as an option on the GT.

I don't really mind if the interior doesn't compete with a lexus, as long as it doesn't fall apart or rattle.

The closest competitor is probably the 350Z now, but it's thousands more and not really any faster than a mustang GT.

Personally, I would wait. I like the new design much more, and the current version is really getting on in years.

I wouldn't worry too much about the "first year" issue. The new platform has already been used extensively (in the LS, S-Type, and Thunderbird), so many potential problems will have already been solved. Additionally, I've read that first year problems in general are much less common than they used to be.

Anyone know when the 2005 is supposed to come out ? I mean is it possibly coming out mid-year 2004 ?

btw, the current Mustang is a great performance bargain and looks great, but what I've seen of the 05 looks awesome.

id wait for the next-gens, and wait out the first year as well 😉

never was a big fan of mustangs, but the new ones are pretty nifty.
