In the pre '96 days the Mustang GT used pushrod/OHV engines, most notably the 5 liter one..Then they switched over to overhead cam engines that were 4.6 L. My question then is, did the same switch occur with their crappy 6 cyl models?

Is there any difference structurally between the engines of a pre '96 base Mustang, '96-'98 Mustang, and '99-present ones?

it's the same 3.8L they always used i think, just got more power. It's a pushrod V6. i'll check this to make sure

edit: yeah they used the 3.8L. i think it's just a stroked version of the 3.0L in base taurus's. the foxbodies came with 4 bangers as the standard engine.

3.8 is the same as it always was. A bit more refined, a bit more power, but no significant changes.(other than headgaskets that don't blow anymore)

The only OHC in the Stang is the 4.6. It is DOHC in the Cobra.(supercharged in the 03's....they are likely the fastest Mustang ever made)
