I am not doubting it is possible, but does anyone have a source of proof. I did a lot of Mustang shows (as an owner/participant) and I can't say I remember a Mustang GT-R at all....was this a GT-40 derivative?

Shelby 350 GTR (no dash). Mid 60's I believe? At least thats what i read when reading about the new GT-R. The Skyline GT-R came out in the late 60's so if anyone was copying it was Prince/Nissan.

no that was a GT350 R. 1965 and some in 1966

Calling it a GTR was an abbreviation many incorrectly use.

In the day it was just called an R

Differences were a lot of fiberglass, no front bumper, plexiglass windows, no hood hinges/latch (pins were used), it had a dash just not the soft cover, the gauges were a flat panel with idiot lights, I don't think the trunk had a lock, it had brake scoops, no glovebox, no radio, no rear seat, no headliner, no carpeting and the door panels were aluminum and flat, suspension had lowered mount points in the front, the gas tank was different, wheels and tires and brakes were different.

I believe white and blue stripes were the only possible color.
