I recently ordered a Gainward 6800GT from Newegg, using a VISA card issued by my bank located in Michigan. However, I presently reside in Arizona, which is where I've had all kinds of merchandise shipped from Newegg via Fedex. Never had any serious issues.

This time was different, apparently. Some newb working at Fedex, I dunno. Anyway, here's what happened. Since the billing info for the VISA was based in MI and the shipping address was in Phoenix, Fedex decided they could not ship to the Phoenix address. So, without notifying myself or Newegg, they shipped the card to Michigan. Thankfully, my parents reside at that address and will forward the card back to me. Ack! This really ticks me off, they had my home phone number, my work phone number, my email address, Newegg's contact information, and they cannot call or email any of us!? They just 'decide' to ship the card to Michigan? BTW, those are the exact words the Fedex Customer Service Rep told me when I called them about my package being on a truck for delivery on the other side of the country.

Fricking idiots.

Fedex should have nothing to do with this. Newegg has always done the address check when you ship to a secondary address. There's even a long disclaimer on the ship to secondary address portion that tells you what you need to do to verify to avoid the delay.

That sounds like Newegg screwed it up....I think they might do that (although, of course, they should notify you) because otherwise, how the hell did Fedex get your credit card info? If Fedex did do it, that's gotta be a HUGE violation of security and privacy.

The CSR probably had no clue what you were talking about. Or how to breathe and chew gum at the same time for that matter.

Although it sounds like it worked out okay, you should definitely try to investigate a little to see what happened.

EDIT:

From Newegg's site:

? Why must Newegg.com verify my shipping address?

In order to guard against credit card fraud, if the billing and shipping address are different, we must verify that the alternate shipping address is authorized.

Please contact your credit card issuer bank and list your ship to address as an alternate address in their memo field. We will call them and verify the address. Please make sure your credit card issuer bank's phone number is listed in your account with Newegg.com.

Agreed. FedEx was absent in the decision process. NewEgg policy, and had nothing to do with FedEx.

What are you talking about you n00b? How the hell does/would FedEx get your credit card billing address? Seriously, does anyone in the world have any common sense anymore?
