Hey guys,

So some friends and I are heading to Chicago for a few days this month, and I'm looking to put together an itinerary. Any suggestions from ATOT on the must-see places and activities to check out while we're there?

Additional info: 4 guys, mid-20s, never been to Chicago before, interested in seeing some of the cool architecture, checking out some museums, eating different cultures' foods, maybe take in a show or two of some sort.

Thanks in advance!

Just wander around downtown, there is so much to see. If you're into it, I'd highly suggest the Museum of Science and Industry, which is a drive or cab ride (not near the other museums).

Avoid Navy Pier, IMHO. Hop on the L and check out the neighborhoods like Wicker Park.

I love that city :p (I'll be there in a month!)

A trip to the Museum of Science and Industry is one of the few things that can bring me into the city. The Sears tower is a bit of a rip off these days, but it's pretty cool if you like observation towers.

Greektown has some really nice restaurants and it's only a few blocks from Union Station and the Sears Tower (Costa's comes to mind), Chinatown is awesome as well.

Shedd Aquarium, Planetarium, Science and Industry, Field Museum, Sears Tower, Navy Pier... those are the token places. All worth the visit for sure.
There a billion places in Chicago to visit. Just all depends on what you are into.

Sorry, they don't make decent pizza anywhere west of New York.

Then you don't belong in a thread about Chicago. :D

I might be in Chicago late this month, so I suppose I'll subscribe to this thread too. I've been to Chicago quite a few times, but have never really done any tourist-y things, aside from visiting the Sears Tower once (which I loved).

boat ride through the canal system was pretty good...you can take the short version around the city or the long ride which take you out the lake michigan...

the bean at millenium park is worth taking some pics at...down the street is buckingham fountain (the one they used at the beginining of Married with Childern).

or you can check out Lincoln's statue at Grant Park or Grant's statue at Lincoln park...

What is the name of that little resteraunt by beach? I need to get back to Chicago, it is a very cool place. We went to the museum and to a Cubs game. Very cool experience to ride the train to the ballgame. Just walking around downtown or taking the bus to see things was cool. We also took a boat ride through the middle of downtown, it was very, very nice.

I was in Chicago last week for Lollapalooza and some general touristy types of things. We went to the Field Museum but didn't hardly spend enough time there. Navy Pier isn't anything special. The Aquarium looked "totally fucking bad ass", but we didn't go. My friend wanted to go to some dance clubs at night but we just didn't have enough energy after three days of getting sunburned and listening to music.

I think there was a lot there we didn't do. I'm very excited to go back.

Oh yeah, if you are driving to Chicago. Just leave your car at your hotel. Take the L or take a taxi. Driving anywhere in downtown Chicago (even four or five miles outside of the Loop) is completely pointless. You won't find parking.

Enjoy your trip!!!

OP, when are you going to Chicago, or have you already been?

(Bump for continued interest.)
