How do you guys not understand my rule? Don't pay menu price unless you're ordering a lot of pizzas.
Why don't you guys quote the rest of what he said?
You WILL GET A GOOD DISCOUNT, sometimes a better price per pizza than if using a good coupon. If not, the pizza place sucks.
Seems pretty clear to me. If you don't use a coupon and pay menu price, the pizza places will then generously discount what you ordered.
At one my old pizza places, we'd often have deals for people that ordered > 10 pies. At the very least, we'd take off 1-2 pies and throw in a tray of garlic knots (approx 80).
If they were a repeat customer, we'd take off a couple of pies and throw in knots and 2-liters.
Chains normally will not do this. Mom&Pop places certainly will.

Yes. It sounds wrong, but you have to read throug his entire statement. Then it's pretty obvious as to what he's saying.
You want to pay the full menu price up until you finalize the order. At that time, that's when you ask them what they can do for you.
If you use one of their coupons (for example $1 off every pie), they're not going to work with you at all.
If you go into the order paying full menu price, they are much, much, much more willing to work with you on discounts. So while you may pay full menu price for a couple of the pizzas, they'll probably wind up discounting entire pizzas, throwing in extras, etc. So this way, you wind up coming out ahead.
Maybe because I've discounted people's orders in the past in this exact way, it's painfully obvious to me as to what he's getting at.

i know plenty of (and have worked in) pizza places that don't "suck" and they don't have this ridiculous policy of bargaining the price of a pizza. get out more.

I've placed large orders for pizza with many pizza places -- most of them gave me steep discounts. I ordered 10 pizzas w/ multiple toppings from Dominos, and I think the total was $45 or so.. about 50% off. Papa Johns gave me about 45% off one order for 18 or 19 pizzas. I don't think that Pizza Hut gave me a discount, no matter how many pizzas I wanted to order. My sister's boyfriend is a manager at a family-owned pizza shop near Columbus, that is fairly popular... they give huge discounts to people that order large numbers of pizzas, as well.
I think it was Donatos that gave us the best deal, but I have NO idea what it was, any more. We ordered something like 100 personal-sized pizzas, and only had to pay for the price of 40 of them, if I recall correctly.

frankly that explanation sounds like a bit of a stretch to me. when you say amount paid, I assume that's the final amount that actually goes to the store. it's more likely the OP simply made a mistake of using "unless" in place if "if"
6. If something is wrong with the order, call them up. The vast majority of the time (even if they think you're lying), they will give you a free pizza, or something of that nature.

a lot of pizzas is not 1 or 2. It's like 6+.
