No, its not just a higher refresh rate displaying the same frame 4 times. Seriously.

It interpolates the frames using motion vectors and what not to add in the missing motion. It's not exactly the same as a true 120fps but it works surprisingly well and the end result is rather impressive, alllmost as good as a real 120fps.

Not that I can tell the diff between 120fps and 60fps, but I can most definitely tell the diff between 30fps and 60fps, and its something you just have to see in action to understand how completely bad ass it is.

What they dont make clear in that paragraph is that it also works with 24fps film and 30fps TV/games just as well. The only cavaet is that the source has to be absolutely *locked* at a stable framerate - every time a frame drops or it hovers at anything but 24fps or 30fps it loses the buttery smoothness.

Luckily, okami is one of those games. So was gears of war, Halo 3 and countless others. Unfortunately, GTA4 couldnt hold that 30fps perfectly steady, but when it did and the interpolation got to work for a few seconds....incredible.
