Ok here's the deal... I'm here at work... limited severly by firewalls... and other devices designed to undermine my musical aspirations.

Can't use Napster... what napsterlike stuff is there out there that I can get access to using Http, and Ftp only?

Not sure if it still works or not. But I used to visit various college websites...www.ucla.edu www.umich.edu and so forth. Then I'd use their search engine to search for .MP3 and lo and behold they'd show up. That was last year though. Haven't done it in awhile.

try audiogalaxy...its web based
it has a client "satellite" and a nasty little software called "webHance".. gotta uninstall or desellect wehance on install of the client...apart from that its a great source...

samgua, you don't need to install anything for audiogalaxy, it's an FTP list.

irc is a good choice, for just file searching, i use limewire (gnutella), and WinMX. i have iMesh, but it kinda sucks, and i'll prolly uninstall it.

i have an ftp full of mp3s a such, but im still not done in installing my software in (i just installed win2k, yay) so i cant help

but audiogalaxy.com can help. i have that here at work, and I too am limited, i have lots of firewalls here, its burning me

IRC is mIRC, technically speaking

its fairly basic. you just need to know what channels you can access
