Tried to talk my parents into going projector but they are being impossible, so it comes down to this. They're going to buy a tv very soon for $2000 cdn or less (maybe $100 more, they are pretty stingy with this). I have talked them into going plasma I was able to at least do that. They need a large tv cus the viewing distance is 7-11.5 feet (and pretty bad vertical viewing angle), but keep in mind the budget.

Any good deals at costco in Canada? Any brand to go for or watch out for? Is there a must have feature they should be going for? They will use it to watch satellite tv, movies, and some wii. I'd really appreciate some tips I'm sorta lost here. I know that pioneer was good, although now gone. I don't even really know if costco has anything bigger than 52" and I haven't been there in person in a while.

Viera is nice, but you ain't getting a big one for C2K, at least not from Costco.

Go in the store and see if they have some more since online I only see a 50" Viera for 1800

edit: just checked futureshop and there is no plasma under 2k that is bigger than 50".

You have more options if you go LCD :D you get a 52" for 2k.

I am assuming pretax 2k. You can definitely negotiate the price in FS though.

Little update, they changed the budget to $2500. You can barter the price down at FS?? I woulda never dreamed that, that's hard to believe.

The LG 60" you linked looks pretty solid, gonna see how it goes over with the parents tomorrow.

If you're at Costco, for that price, seek out Pioneer Kuro. Best black contrast on the market.

Canadian Costco doesn't carry the Kuro...

Costco typically has the TVs all set up so you can watch them for yourself.

You should be able to get a good deal on a 46" set these days. If I were you, I would write down the model numbers of the TVs in their price range, then go home and look up some reviews.

If you want a quick and dirty recommendation, the Consumer Reports articles are pretty good and compare most of the sets currently on the market.

I tend to notice alot of Samsungs at Costco which is good. I would stay away from the no-name brands. Also, try to get one with 1080P. It's not a critical feature, but nice to have, and it makes the set more future-proof.

I would also go with LCD over plasma as it will save them a fair bit on their electricity bill. Plasma is being outlawed in Europe because it uses too much power. LCD has pretty much caught up to Plasma in terms of picture quality, and does not suffer from burn-in (which is still an issue on plasmas dispite what salespeople will have you believe).

The Sony Bravias and Samsungs tend to have consistant quality across the board and you can't really go wrong with them. I personally own a Sharp Aquos and love it; it actually dusts my parents' set which is a Sony.
