Must be summer, crickets chirping, birds chirping and decks collapsing !

I just built a deck on my home yesterday. I can see how these things can collapse. Wood, nails and beer make a poor and dangerously built deck.
 
For those of you who aren't familiar with Chicago, these "back porches" were never designed to handle groups of people. What they really are is the rear emergency exit required by building codes and are generally only large enough to provide a way out of the building. Most of the ones I have seen are the width of building (25 feet) by 6 or 8 feet (less space for the stairway). This one must have been completely packed.
 
This one was brand new from what I hear and it looks as if they used 2 by 8 or 2 by 10's, guess there a weak link somewhere in the construction.
