I do it just to burn even more fuel than I normally would because 'Murica.

This. Plus what ImpulsE69 said. I'll often think I'm going the speed limit and actually be going 5-10 over due to being up higher. And my truck probably has triple the power of whatever the OP drives.

You're going about this all wrong. You need to start the sentence with "Let's take our largest liability - our kids - and..."
If you have the mind set that kids are a burden instead of an asset, driving like a suicidal retard suddenly makes sense.

Kids ARE a burden. Last I checked there's over 6billion people on the planet. There is no shortage of people. Anyone spitting out more than one is just being selfish and irresponsible. ():)

Let's be honest with ourselves here. People drive fast because they don't care. If more people did care on the road, then you wouldn't see as many speed bumps in neighborhoods where the speed limits are 25mph, but everything thinks it's okay to fly around at nearly twice the speed.

People in trucks typically drive fast because they're higher off the ground. It's not a personal thing, but the higher off the ground you are, the slower your sense of speed is. I live in Tampa, and there are *a lot* of trucks here. I caught myself once doing over 50mph in a 25mph zone in a neighborhood (no speed bumps) while I was driving my friend's new car. Why? Because I didn't realize I was going that fast! Yep, I'm guilty too! But looking back I realized it was because I wasn't paying enough attention to my speedometer.

I tell people constantly that cars are weapons, and the heavier the car (or truck) you drive, the bigger your weapon is. Like guns, cars are to be handled with care, because careless driving, like careless weapon handling, injures and/or kills people. So care a little while on the road. While many accidents are just that, accidents, many can be avoided if we just cared a little bit more about what we're doing.

And seriously, get OFF your cell phones while driving.

Some good things were said here. I'm thinking that we as humans feel confident while driving and are on tight schedules (for whatever reason) so the two often lead us to driving in a certain manner. Other times, we feel that we need to drive "spiritedly" for fun, etc. Everyone has a reason and a cause and wherever they are going takes priority over everything else.

But driving is a reflection of you - it is not separate from you. If you drive in a certain manner, that is you doing it - the car isn't doing it. It shows who you are.

In this society we live in, caring, gentleness and unselfishness is totally gone. That is often reflected in the driving. I am part of the problem myself. I often speed because I woke up too late.

Yes sir, you probably do ... But the ones lower to the ground can better appreciate their sense of speed - sometimes :D

OP I have noticed that phenomenon too. I find it interesting, because when I drive my truck (a 2003 F150) I always seem to take it slow and easy. Rarely get above 60 in it.

That is great. Maybe your living your life in a certain way that you don't need to rush in order to make it on time or get to where your going. There is a certain calmness in driving it easy and taking it slow. I want to do it more often. Let's see what happens. Thanks.

Trucks have seats like barcaloungers, suspension bushings made out of jello, steering wheels and brake pedals connected to tubs of whipped cream, transmissions that slip more than a waterslide park, and tires with all the sidewall stiffness of Rush Limbaugh's squishy little gentlemen's sausage.

Those who commute in them do so because anything smaller can't contain their massively distended McAsses.

So basically, you have a vehicle with absolutely zero connection to the road, piloted by someone physically incapable of sensing feedback from the road. As a result, they have absolutely no idea how fast they are going or how close/far they are from the limits of the vehicle. Of course they drive fast, because they have no concept of how dangerous it is to do so in that particular kind of vehicle.

A lot of people do not know how to drive a truck.
Saw a woman stuck in the snow and I was laughing my ass off.
She was in a Ford F-150. I was behind her and yelling at her and smiling.
I could tell she has been there over 20 minutes trying to get unstuck.
She rolled down her windows in frustration at me yelling and I yell:
You are driving it like a car! It's a F-150 baby! Gun it hard!

And so she did and it tore out of the snow with ease and I put my fist out and hollered YAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!

I could tell she was happy as hell.

The other side of truckers I hate:

"I may drive fast but in a turn I only do 5mph."
