They probably have other shit to do besides picking up lumber. Luckily for you there is a very very easy solution, stay in the left lane and you'll be fine. If you're on a one laner then slow down (slowly, don't break check em) until they pass you and continue about your merry way. If you are doing the speed limit in the right lane I hope you get Ebola.

I'm assuming you live in a left-lane driving country. Otherwise D:

I often find pickups riding up fast on my even when doing 80 in a 70/65 zone.

Maybe the safety factor as well? I drove my friends pick up truck a lot and it felt REALLY safe while I was driving it. I didn't speed though since it wasn't mine.

Except that pickup trucks are the most dangerous (private passenger) vehicles on the road for other drivers, and almost the most dangerous for their own drivers (only sports cars and subcompacts are worse). Source.

Yep, as long as you remember that is a 13 year old study of 16-20 year old vehicles (study was published in 2002 and examined vehicles made between 1995-1999).

Do you think vehicles, incl. trucks, have gotten safer over the last 2 decades?

I'm an accountant and as such I deserve to drive to work every day in a vehicle that gets absolutely horrible gas mileage and drive as fast as possible to get there.

Gas mileage on newer trucks and low prices at the pump are making it worse. My guess is they're going to slow down after the prices rise.

I rarely drive my truck unless I'm needing to haul something. I still don't understand driving one as a commuter vehicle as many people do. I'm hoping to keep low miles on mine for years just to make it last longer and easier to sell in a decade.

I give truck douchebags credit for being consistent.

What kills me are old people driving SUVs. They have no concept of speed limits. They might not be aware that modern vehicles have speed gauges on them. 50mph? Nah, let's drive 38mph! A mile later, let's drive 65mph in the same 50mph zone! wtf? Why? Because they're old and you're not.

I hope he is going to blow it out on the highway once in a while.
IDK, he's not the brightest when it comes to vehicles, he was conned into paying an additional $40/mth warranty on just the electronics, I reminded him that he already had a 3/36K warranty on the whole truck, "this will cover any issues after that", damm, they sure saw him coming.

Let's be honest with ourselves here. People drive fast because they don't care. If more people did care on the road, then you wouldn't see as many speed bumps in neighborhoods where the speed limits are 25mph, but everything thinks it's okay to fly around at nearly twice the speed.

People in trucks typically drive fast because they're higher off the ground. It's not a personal thing, but the higher off the ground you are, the slower your sense of speed is. I live in Tampa, and there are *a lot* of trucks here. I caught myself once doing over 50mph in a 25mph zone in a neighborhood (no speed bumps) while I was driving my friend's new car. Why? Because I didn't realize I was going that fast! Yep, I'm guilty too! But looking back I realized it was because I wasn't paying enough attention to my speedometer.

I tell people constantly that cars are weapons, and the heavier the car (or truck) you drive, the bigger your weapon is. Like guns, cars are to be handled with care, because careless driving, like careless weapon handling, injures and/or kills people. So care a little while on the road. While many accidents are just that, accidents, many can be avoided if we just cared a little bit more about what we're doing.

And seriously, get OFF your cell phones while driving.

I can accept a speeding truck driver than a Mario Vandretti. People with minivans seems clueless to why they exist in the first place. 'Let's take our most precious cargo--our kids--and drive the minivan like a sports car because it is SOOOO equipped to my dumbass driving style' behavior.

They were irresponsible when they got knocked up, and now they continue their ways in their minivan driving habits.

OP I have noticed that phenomenon too. I find it interesting, because when I drive my truck (a 2003 F150) I always seem to take it slow and easy. Rarely get above 60 in it.

Full size pickup trucks: The last bastion of the emasculated man. For the dude who's past his prime, his wife is a bit too overweight, and has a firm grip on his truck nuts. :D

Pickup trucks only became popular after the minivan went out of style, and the soccer moms all started buying 7-passenger SUVs. Hence my theory. The weekend warrior dudes all used to drive SUVs before, now they're seen as a family vehicle. Now he has to make himself feel bigger by driving around like an asshat in a construction vehicle.

For the record, I don't hate pickups, but they're a working man's vehicle. There should be tools in the back, bed scratched to rat shit, dirt permanently caked on the fenders, and a cab that reeks of DuMauriers and rotten bananas. Players or Pall Malls if you're American.

I wish they'd bring the compact trucks back. I miss the Ranger. Every now and then, I need to haul something awkward. Don't need a monster F150 for that. Would be ideal for my RC off road gear too.

You're going about this all wrong. You need to start the sentence with "Let's take our largest liability - our kids - and..."
If you have the mind set that kids are a burden instead of an asset, driving like a suicidal retard suddenly makes sense.

Hmm... this gives me an entirely new perspective on their behavior. I have always thought that they drive like a bunch of retards is because they've lost their will to live when they purchased the minivans, and want to reclaim some of it by driving around as aggressively as possible, for posturing.

But, you've taking it to another level. Perhaps they do want to end it all.

Hey minivan drivers, if you do feel inclined to end it all, remember it's DOWN A CLIFF and not across the highway.

Actually, I've also noticed that not just the newer pickup trucks, but also newer entry level vehicles such as VWs, A3, Huyndais, Camry V6, etc... that are just driving around like a bunch of bigger douchbags.

I concluded that's because they've always driven shit cars, and with these newer replacements, feel invincible and awesome, because, well, they've had shit cars all their lives. And, they don't know any better. I place the V6 Camry drivers squarely in the minivan drivers' box, as far as why they drive the way they do is concerned.

I think the newer trucks drive a lot smoother and quieter than the old ones did. And being up high in a truck, it's hard to tell how fast you are going. I drive an Expedition and if I'm not paying attention, I easily end up cruising along at about 85 MPH.

Because, you know, these new modern vehicles, why the FUCK did they leave out the SPEEDOMETER!!!??? I don't know if they've bothered to leave one in, they still put it in front of people's faces like they used to do. I bet they've omitted the turn signal stalk from them as well, amirite?
