Musings on the Vonage V-Phone

The concept is clever enough, but I fail to see the need for the USB dongle. Why not leverage the fact that a lot of newer laptops have onbaord bluetooth and allow the vonage software to utilize a BT headset? Or simply plug in a headset into the PC, either via USB or traditional audio in/out channels.

They claim that the software does not ned to be installed, perhaps that is the big selling point...

The key phrase in there is "newer laptops". Most people don't have newer laptops that have bluetooth built in so it's more practical for them to advertise a solution that any laptop owner could use. I'm pretty sure that if you did have a bluetooth headset you would be able to use it.

I think the population segment that would carry their phone around on a USB device would also be more likely to have a newer PC. Whatever the case may be, I don't get the need for the dongle itself.
