musicians: recommend me a mic

I'm looking for a decent vocal mic for a very wide range singing including throat-singing, beatboxing, etc; and both loud and quiet singing.

my budget is $50.

what are the best options?

well, not considering your budget, Sony has a very nice mic that I use to record (I am a pianist) for about $100...you could probably find it used for $50...it is a digital mic and has a 90 and 120 degree recording angle feature. Well, gl.

EDIT: I have the mic, but I need it🙂 Does it need to be new or used?

50 bucks is really busting your balls on quality. You're gonna have to up it to at least 100-125 to get a decent one.

i second the shure sm58. its basically the standard for live vocal mics. Should be able to pick one up for ~100 or less.

Get a Shure SM57. It's pretty much the same mic as the SM58, but a little bit more versatile. You could find it for $50 on Ebay.
It can double as a hammer...it is really that durable.

hm seems like a lot of people on the web recommend the shure sm57 and sm58. There's also the pg58 which sounds pretty good. Since they're all roughly the same price ($55-$70), I guess I could go with any of them.

Can I get a few more testimonials about any of these three mics? Which one is best for very wide range singing including throat-singing, beatboxing, etc; and both loud and quiet singing?

The Beta 58 has a little better isolation than the SM58 for live performances (slightly less likely to feed back) and has a little warmer tone on the bottom end. Any of these Shure mics are rugged as hell and are good sounding, all-purpose mics for the price range.
