Musicians, need help selecting a keyboard for my g/f's xmass present

ok so im looking at some yamahas online, they seem ok to me, what features am I looking for? I can only spend $500 TOPS, and a lot of these ones online are uber expensive.

what kind of music is she playing?
i don't know much about keyboard, but if there is anybody out there who does, that info will help.

Costco/Sam's has the one Yamaha 500 series model that comes with the stand and stool. I've played it and it's nice and fit's your budget.

edit: forgot to mention brand.

Is a keyboard ok, or will she want a full 88-key electric piano?

Make sure the keyboard has weighted keys, and a pedal. Anyone who has played the piano and then moves to a keyboard would appreciate those 2 things.

na 88 keys is too big, it seems the other standard is 61, which would be fine. I didnt think of weighted keys, but I think that she will definetly want that. not sure if she'll really need/want a pedal, but will keept that in mind

She plays classical, but she can also play a lot of modern stuff as well, such as Cold Play. how does this change what im looking for, a piano is a piano is a keyboard right?

Most of the models over 250/300 should at least have a jack on the back for a pedal or two. They should also include MIDI jacks as well, so you don't really need to spend the extra for one with a disk drive. Does she have one currently? Keyboards are pretty subjective, so you should try to get one where it can be exchanged for a different model if necessary.
[edit]
If she plays classical, she'll almost definitely want a pedal. You may also want to go for 76 keys instead of 61--that may be a bit too limiting for more complex classical works. With the octave shift functions available, she can probably get by with a 76, but a full 88 is always ideal.
