Anyone else use Guitar Pro w/RSE? That could be a good way to get started also?

Just throwing it out there.

Yeah, I use that too, but I only use it for reading multi-track tabs.. I hate it for writing music, it kind of bounds me, you know? True music is in your heart and in your head, and I've never performed any song I wrote myself the same way twice.

No, I agree, however the idea using GP w/RSE would be to make a simple backing track with a small file size for trading initially. The MIDI parts would be replaced with user tracks after working individually with the GP file.

I've collaborated a little using GP in this fashion before, hence the suggestion, but never use it when I'm working alone.

I do improvise playing quite alot, but it can also be quite limiting and keep your playing from progressing, so I try to mix it up with some structure and play different genre as well.

Yeah, I play a lot of different genres, but always with the same lack of structure.. I just can't really ENJOY the standard chorus/verse riffs, I'm all over the place. Some people like that, some people hate it. You win some, you lose some..

I should really get some new gear... Working on a VibroVerb clone right now, planning on making my own (tube) wah and I really want a new guitar, too.. Damn, I wish I had something other than just my camera to record..

OK, I didn't get the chance to track anything last night (got pulled off on one of those last-minute family things) But tonight is a normal band practice night anyway so I'll get all the recording gear set up as soon as I get home from work. I should hopefully get something squeezed out durring one of our breaks and posted up sometime this evening.

I'll either throw up a download link on myspace or my band's website.

Right now I'm thinking of a couple of different backbeats. Pretty basic blues stuff, but one in 4/4 and the other in 6/8 timimg probably about 3-5 minutes each.

Check back here around 8-9:00 Pacific time..

JR..

I made my own Wah pedal for a school project a while back. If you need any tips, let me know. :)

Thanks.. :)

How did you do it, then? I really want a custom one, for instance, I want to be able to select how 'aggressive' the wah is. Sometimes like with metal, I kind of use it as a distortion pedal, but with things like blues and rock, I want a kind of clean, smooth wah, you know? I plan on using the casing of my current wah, a Behringer (I know, but it was so cheap, I couldn't help myself.. :p).

I play keyboards and might be able to do some interesting stuff with the atmosphere of the music.

I was thinking a cheesy 60's organ might sound cool with this (think Paul Schafer).

Just wanted to check in here. I've got everything mic'd up and set up, but we're in the middle of practice for now so I probably won't get the stuff tracked out and uploaded as soon as I thought. Probably delayed by a couple of hours or so (say around 10-11ish Pacific time). But I did NOT forget about you guys.

Sorry guys, not gonna happen tonight. Band stayed over late and I only got about 3 takes in (none of which I was happy with) before I had to shut it down so the kids could get some sleep. I'll try again tomorrow morning...

I got some personal recording done earlier tonight instead :)

Better late than never!! Tracks are officially up.

Here's the link.
http://www.here4days.com/ATOT/atot.html

When you get there just right click the page links and do a 'save as'.

Enjoy!!
JR..

p.s. The 6/8 track was done on the 1st take and there are a couple of "spots", but nothing to write home about. Especially once it's all burried under other instrumentation :D

That's a very fast blues track eh? I play guitar and record. Put me down for some wankage or riffin.
