Probably not too many people know of him or remember him, but he was a masterful acoustic guitarist with a really weird sense of song titles. Think of Leo Kotke, but Fahey preceded him by a decade or so. He was doing amazing acoustic guitar albums in the mid-60s (for reference sake, time of the Monkees).
I just found out he died a week or so ago, at age 61, after heart surgery.
What seems really sad to me was that this master musician was forced to scronge for income in his later years. Supposedly he would scour record stores for rare classical albums and resell them to collectors.
