Is there anybody else out there that listens to musical soundtracks? On any given day I have a pearl jam/postal service/tool etc. CD in my car, but I do like musical soundtracks. I grew up playing instruments and still listen to quite a bit of classical. I like Phantom of the Opera and Rent. A friend had me listen to Mulan Rouge(sp?) and it was ehh. By FAR my favorite is Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. Any other suggestions?

*goes to take a shot of whiskey, listen to Megadeath and shoot something.

I just watched Sweeny Todd. Not a single memorable melody. They might as well have dispensed with the musical numbers and converted the lyrics into dialogue.

What, like the Shaun of the Dead soundtrack? Sure, but I already listen to a lot of orchestral and instrumental movie specific soundtracks and music tracks just from watching a lot of movies.

Yea, I think there was a confusion between instrumental soundtracks and musical soundtracks. I was more curious about the latter.

I used to own a lot of disney soundtracks when I was little.

I enjoy a good musical. But it does help if you grew up playing an instrument or were involved in music in some way. I was always in the orchestra for the yearly musicals in high schools.

I think this would restore your man card...

As for me, there are several soundtracks that I thought were absolutely amazing. Anything by John Williams is a must-listen. He's such an incredible composer.

absolutely - gladiator, halo (say what you will, the music is excellent), transformers original score (not to be confused with the soundtrack that has linkin park and others on it).

I haven't really listened to musical soundtracks, but I have listened a few tracks composed by Harry Gregson Williams(Metal Gear Solid, Kingdom Of Heaven, Man on Fire, etc.) as opposed to my usual rock/metal tastes.

Jerry Goldsmith, Hans Zimmer, John Williams are the leading American composers for good orchestral movie scores.

If you like then, you'd probably like Aaron Copland and Gershwin. American classical music composers are the bees' knees.

Just three:
Phantom of the Paradise ("Ink isn't worth anything to me, Winslow.")
Nightmare Before Christmas (I'm a Boingo fan)
Rocky Horror Picture Show

I enjoyed the singing in Sweeny Todd but the tunes didn't make me want to buy the soundtrack.

I loved the music in Once, but it wasn't a musical either.
