Now normally, I would have thought that this was a stupid thing to do. But I picked up a new sound card, some headphones and started listening.

I've been sitting, reading forums and listening to music for the past few weeks rather than playing games. It's really quite fun :0

Edit: I should add that it's prompted me to re-rip all my CD's to 320 KB/s or maybe even FLAC if I get a new HDD..this is addicting. Generally, I'll just sit and critically listen, it's amazing what you can hear with some decent hardware.

When I'm in the mood to do so I will, it has struck me a lot less than it used to.

I love to do just that especially when I am using good audio equipment but usually I don't have the time to do that for very long, unless I am on a trip.

Would be a crying shame if I didn't use my supremely expensive headphones to just listen. Just listening and nothing else :)

My problem is I like to listen loud. I'd rather have my hearing not go too quickly so I have to pace myself with the length of time. Unfortunate but that's life.

It's one of life's perks for me. Don't think I can function properly if I don't take some time to relax and listen to music.

I often find if I try to nef or read something while listening to music I'll have to restart the song because I failed to really listen to it. No substitute sometimes for just sitting there and listening. This is more applicable to Classical/Orchestral/Jazz/Instrumental music where you can close your eyes and pick out the threads and motifs.

Often. I actually rarely listen to music while doing other tasks because as you concentrate, the music kinda becomes just background noise. I prefer immersing myself completely in good music to that.

When I was still in the Navy my last barracks room was my own.
Very small but it was all mine.

Once in a while I would turn off the lights, remove my glasses, sit back in the chair with a beer and just listen.
Was pretty nice actually. Then I got out and had an apartment with room for a proper TV and entertainment center. Have not yet purchased a la-z-boy but maybe I should. Just so I can sit back in comfort and enjoy some peace.

Ha, enjoying peace and quiet has a whole different meaning if you're in the military I guess...

Same here, except I don't "critically listen". I don't really care as long as it sounds well enough for me to enjoy.

Sometimes, I like to listen loud and with lots of bass, and my speakers/receiver can do both :D

Yeah, even doing simple/menial tasks lowers your real listening capacity noticably. Thats not to say you can't still enjoy it, as I like to while reading, playing games (racing games specifically), browsing the web, and a lot of other things. However, to really listen, I sit down plug in my headphones and tune out everything else. In fact I just recently picked up a new (well actually used) CD player to do just that.
