Music videos...why do artists even do them anymore?

Seeing as how stations like MTV and VH1 don't seem to be music stations anymore, why do artists these day even bother making music videos?

wow, remember when MTV2 was so good, now it is turning into MTV1. If record companies pay for videos to get made because they get free publicity, why don't they just offer them on P2P?
oh that's right P2P is teh debil.

MTV/VH1 both play music videos.

Oh really, you mean their 15 second clips on TRL?

My GF and I were flipping through channels over the weekend and stopped on MTV. TRL was on and the co-hosts were yapping, then they started playing Kelly Clarkson's latest music video. I swear to you, she sang like 3 lines, then they cut off the video and panned back to the screaming audience.

WTF?

The artists pay for the videos themselves.

Well, I can't say I know why but I am glad they do. I picked up A Perfect Circle's remix cd and it came with a DVD that had all of their videos on it. Now, I have never actually seen an APC video on TV but it was cool to see them on DVD. Also, Maynard's commentary really shed light on some of his lyrics.

If the videos aren't lame then it's cool. I used to havea hobby of collecting music videos and archiving them on dvd's. But I agree there's really not too much point in making them if they never get played anymore.

Tradition - it's part of being in a band and living that whole experience... (at least for rock bands)

😕 Rock n Roll was around LONG before MTV.

depends on the band. not always. regardless, the purpose of a music video is publicity. more information to be implanted in your memory.
