Have you ever downloaded a trainer for a video game and it plays music. It sounds like music from old school video games, like stuff on the Super Nes era.

I really dig most of it for some reason. I don't know it if just makes me nostalgic for that era or what. Does this music have a name? Where can I find more of it to download?
Can I make it myself, like through some kind of program or how is it made?

The music you're talking about is called "oldskool" by the Demoscene. The easiest place to find more of it would be from Scene.org, the official archive of all the Demoscene's work. The music is organized by groups, not by type, so you'll want to do is look through the results from various demo parties, which will have the oldskool music from that party (if there was a competition for that category) along with the rankings for the entries. I'd recommend starting with Assembly 2007, as that's the biggest party and competition of the year.

I'd also recommend checking out the works of Skaven if you like that style of music. He produced some of the music for the greatest demo of all time (Second Reality) and his current music is still in an oldskool style while still being modern.

Check out 8bitpeoples.com as well, their entire discography is available on the site in MP3. They have some cool tunes.

Hmmm...
I checked out that scene.org site. it's pretty close but I'm not sure its exactly the same thing. the stuff I listened to on the site seemed to have real instruments mixed in.

The stuff I'm talking about is like it was made entirely of old game samples or something.

I also listened to skaven, and while i like it, its even far more away from what i'm looking for than the scene.org stuff.

here, i'll host the trainer that has music that i am looking for, that way you can listen and see exactly what i mean.

trainer with music

the 8bitpeoples stuff is close, but too old-ish i think. i think i need somethign mroe 16 bit maybe?

Check out the site I linked to, some of the stuff is more electronic and synthpop/synthrock, but most of it is pure chiptune. No instruments or anything, everything is created using the 8-bit sound chips from old consoles, computers, etc.

EDIT: Hmm well I'm out of suggestions then. Let me know if you find any other chiptune sites as I recently found out about 8bitpeoples and really have been getting into the music. Would definitely be interested in finding more chiptune music. :)

You may want to look at the results of other oldskool contests. What you're after is definitely going to be under that style of music. The Assembly stuff was all required to run on pre-1992 hardware.
