Music Speakers

I am looking for a good set of speakers for my PC. My PC is basically my only means of listening to music. I use it for MP3s, CDs, etc. My PC resides in a fairly small, carpeted room, so I don't need anything extremely powerful. I am using a set of Altec Lansing ACS 48s that are on their last leg. I have loved every minute that I had them. I don't really care about the sound for DVDs or games, I'm looking for something that plays music really well. The one thing I loved most about my Altecs was they played mids extremely well. I like mostly metal and hard rock music, and these are the only PC speakers I've ever heard that play the midrange guitar crunch really well. They have a really rich, warm sound. Seems like most of the speaker sets at Bestbuy and Compusa nowadays are geared towards booming bass for movies and stuff. Maybe that's just the way they're setup, I don't know. They also tend to be blown at the store, so I can't really hear what they sound like anyway. Basically, since I can't really find the ACS 48s anymore, I was hoping someone might be able to suggest a set of speakers that are geared more towards playing music really well, rather than movies and games. Also if anyone knows of a good site for speaker reviews that would be cool.

What is your budget, and are you looking for computer/multimedia speakers or a set of hifi speakers w/amplifier?

Hi Toronado,

A good place to start looking is www.newegg.com, they have all the reviews of the people that actually bought the speakers.

And if You're looking for something similar to the 48's I'd say check out the new Altec Lansing, Logitech, and Creative 2.1's.
