Music SKipping

Nebor

Lifer
This has been ongoing for a few months, but since it has been the lesser of my problems, I'm just now getting to it. My sound sound skips for maybe a second... or less. Maybe half a second. But it does it at totally random intervals. It does it with both my speakers and my headphones. This is through the Audigy 2. It's only noticable when playing music.... or maybe it only happens when playing music? But I can tell when it skips through a word or something. It's a very strange problem... I use WMP 9. Any settings I can tweak on it, or anything else I could fiddle with? I bought the COMPUSA warranty on this sound card, so I can take it back anytime within the next 2 years and get a new one.

Try playing it through winamp or another media program and see if it still doing it. Aslo check to see if you are running current motherboard drivers and current Audigy 2 drivers. That would be my first things i would check.

Sounds like a PCI latency issue. It skips because WMP9 is typical MS bloatware and conflicts with bus demands with other system components. You can try the registered version of PowerStrip to play with the latencies, but I've found WinAmp to be a better program not only for fairly skip-free performance but also far better compatability with different ripping methods.
