..maybe it's because the music sucks...rehashing the same style of crap will lead to where we are today...how many britneys, or 3 member girl groups, 5 member boy bands, do we need.

I saw the lord of the rings: the two towers soun dtrack for sale today in a book store. It was priced at $17.99

Now, when the Movie comes out on DVD, I'm going to buy it for 19.99.

4 hours of video + audio for $20, or 1 hour of jsut audio for $18.... hmm, I wonder which is overpriced

I used to buy many cd's, 2-4 a month. Since about a year ago I haven't bought one, not since Nicklebacks latest.. Its not because of the internet, its because music SUCKS lately. Every group has one good song then I never hear them again..

you're either not looking hard enough, or just have narrow taste...
there is good music out there, find it
how do you guys generally find out about music?

magazines?
tv?
friends?

I think it's mostly because the music generally sucks.

I was just gonna say that. All the sh1t sounds the same. And it does sound like sh1t.

Exactly, the number of new titles were down either 25% or 75% I forget which, but either way much more than 10%.

Also, sales of DVDs and video games are way up, but the RIAA scum don't want anyone to consider that perhaps consumers are buying DVDs instead of music.

That's part of the problem that the music industry doesn't have a grasp on. Given ClearChannel's control over the radio airwaves, people generally don't find out about enough good new music.. It's not that ClearChannel intends to be evil, it's that they're just trying to pander to the lowest common denominator; if they feel the local market for a station doesn't justify a particular format or artist, they don't play it.. So we're stuck with Avril Lavigne...

There's no rule that says the music industry has to make a large, beefy profit every year. Some of the hit is likely due to file sharing but I'm certain they exagerate figures.

if you don't like the new stuff that is out, buy the cds from old bands that you dont have yet. or check out other old bands that the bands you like were influenced by. no need to say the music sucks because it's not just new music that is being sold.

So we're stuck with Avril Lavigne...

Whats wrong with her? I really like a few of her songs that aren't played on the radio. The songs will never be released for radio play though because there not stupid soda pop punk like all the kids love these days. :( The song unwanted is a good one, try and download it and give it a listen..

I with IamDavud, it's a good album. She has some heavier songs than the pop stuff the record company puts out as singles.

I don't mind Avril either, I just get sick of hearing the same songs on the radio time and time again.

I dl'd the album and gave it a go. Won't buy, but it's not too bad.

notfred - B&N? b/c their music is as overpriced as Sam Goody's is. Also, if it's a 2 cd set it will cost a little bit more than just one cd

I have to agree with most of the people here - just the same crap rehashed. They do attempt to lower cd prices for new artists though - a lot of newer unheard of artists started out with cd prices at $5.99 (Hoobastank, Vanessa Carlton, think Avril was too among others) in an attempt to "discover" the new artists.

The only CD I bought this year was Eminem. All of the other CDs didn't seem worth getting.

BB, CC, and Target usually have them on sale for $11.99, occasionally $9.99

If I like an artist I'll buy their cd. If for no other reason its worth it for the quality. I can't stand poorly encoded mp3s.

I wonder if the general down turn of the economy could have something to do with it. You didn't hear merchants complaining that holiday sales were down because of the internet. "We'd have more sales if kids weren't pirating sweaters."

there were very few major pop releases, it seems to me. and major pop releases drive record sales.
