Music related: What's a good program to... ? (OSX or Windows)

I'm looking for a free program I can use to take multiple mp3s and combine them to create simple mixes, with beatmatching if possible. Has anyone used any such and had good experience? If so, what features should I look for and what should I avoid? This is just for fun, personal use.

I know of several for both OSes, but none of them are inexpensive and I've never actually used them, so I'm really not much help. Free bump, though.
