I NEED to talk about QotSA - in the past 2 months I've had this album I've been listening to this album daily (yes daily, every single day) and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. It replaced most of my Pink Floyd as driving music and chill music, and most of it is very upbeat and very heavy metal and melodic.

Dave Grohl (drummer of Nirvana, lead singer for Foo Fighters) is the drummer on their latest album "Songs for the Deaf" and most of you have probably heard "No One Knows" their single off it. IMHO it's one of my least favorite songs on the album, and all of the songs on the album are good (unlike those bands nowadays that put out an album with 2-3 singles, all of the songs on this album are quality songs)

For all those of you who "sample" music before buying an album you might wanna check out:

Queens of the Stone Age - "The Sky is Falling" "Mosquito Song" "Go With the Flow" "Gonna Leave You" "Song for the Dead" "Song for the Deaf" but seriously all songs on this album are worth a listen.

If you like Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Metallica, or Tool, you'd probably like QotSA too.

Edit: Okay if you like Tool or Metallica then you might not like QotSA, but still give them a try.

A buddy just bought that album, and its pretty cool. I need to see if he'll let me borrow it. I won't buy an album unless I can give it some play time first.

Though, I think the comparisons to Metallica, Tool, et al are ridiculous.

Well, they have Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath roots... Tool and Metallica don't?

Edit: I also said "if you like Tool, Metallica, etc." i didn't say "they sound like Tool and Metallica"

Ack, never compare Queens of the Stone Age to Metallica or Tool!!! :|

Great CD, and I'm suprised they are getting as much exposure as they are. First it Giveth is probably my favorite of their songs, but I could listen to the whole thing on repeat all day.

They're getting a lot of exposure? Most people I talk to haven't heard most their stuff besides "No One Knows"

I thought that was implied. If you happened to like Tool and Metallica, why else would like Queens of the Stone Age? If they sound nothing alike, how can you make that comparison?

People who like Tool nowadays usually don't like the Good Charlotte, Trapt, Blink 182 bands of today. If you're a huge fan of Blink 182 and those new punk bands, I'd doubt you are really into Metallica or Black Sabbath.

Eh, bad comparison.

The people I meet that like Led Zepellin generally like Pink Floyd as well, although they don't sound alike at all. They just like good music.

Relatively speaking. No, they aren't shoved down your throats 24/7, but I have seen what 3 video's on MTV and I'm sure the radio plays them. They aren't hyped like Linkin Park or Metallica or anything, but they get waaaaaaaaaaaay more exposure than most bands. I'm not complaining though, we need more bands like them on MTV.

QOTSA are quite good ...... Bu sure to listen to some Kyuss... as they are another awesome Stoner Rock band. You way also want to listen to some Monster Magnet, Alabama Thunderpussy, Slow Horse, Southfork, Goatsnake, Fu Manchu, Backdraft, Quitter, Electric Wizard, Earthride, Sparzanza and Solarized as they are also all good stoner rock bands.
