music question: covers you like better / that did better than the original?

was just listening to my mp3 player, and hit 'Dreams' from Molly Hatchet. I've got the original (at least, I think it is ) from the Allman Brothers Band on here as well. Like them both, but I've always liked the Hatchet version more, for some reason.

As far as covers that did / sold better than the original, there's always Joe Cocker's version of 'With a Little Help From my Friends'. I'm sure Proud Mary is up there somewhere too, but I've heard so many versions of it, I'm not sure *who* did the original

Mike Portnoy, the drummer from Dream Theater, put together a Rush tribute called 'Working Man', in which many superstar, virtuoso musicians teamed up to redo a dozen or so Rush songs, mostly playing them note for note.

I'm a huge Rush fan, but I have at admit, most of these redo's are sharper, cleaner, and just overall better sounding than Rush's originals.
