Er, have you checked the settings on the output plugin in winamp? Does the equalizer show there actually is sound?

and wavs play in other apps? I'd first check the output plugin then, it may be directing it to somewhere else....hmm...does you mobo have built in sound? If so, and you haven't disabled it in the BIOS or something, it may be that the apps are sending the sound to the on-board mobo sound.

Er...OK, don't mean to insult your intelligence or anything here, but occasionally it happens - did you check your speakers are plugged into the sound card?

Oh, wait, wait. You might want to check the Soundblaster utilities for something marked digital output only - if that's checked, it kills analog output. I'd tell you exactly where it is, might be speaker settings, might be THX setup, but I'm not at home so can't check. Definitely in there somewhere.

When did this start happening? Did you have sound before? Do Windows sounds work?

Sure the speakers still work? Try hooking them to other sources. That will rule out them.

After, maybe try disabling the audigy 2 device in device manager, then restart, switch onboard audio back on, to see if its your soundcard. I'm guessing you should figure out something with those. If still no go, then it must be settings in windows that aren't being changed or bypassed to different config by switching to onboard.

What about uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers? Maybe even try an older version of them

I have a compaq laptop from 2001, and the newest drivers for win2k are flaky, when I boot windows I have about a one in five chance that they will "initialize" the sound correctly. If they don't, I get no errors, but if i play sound the eq in winamp shows that it's playing, but I hear nothing. But if I reboot and it initializes correctly, it stays working. My workaround solution has been to shut to to hibernate mode instead of powering off. FYI, older versions of the drivers always init, but the sound plays back about 10% too fast. So it certainly could be a driver issue
