The RIAA says 60 million people pirate music.
50 million voted for our current president.

I think something is wrong with the system. Either the law should change, or voter turnout sucks, or both. Maybe if those 60 million pirates informed politicians they would be voting against pro-RIAA "representatives" (I use quotes because if 60 million constituents do it, fighting it isn't representing them) something might happen.

When I vote the candidates position regarding the RIAA's heavy handed tactics will determine how I vote.

Exactly. I mean, who needs fiscal responsibility or welfare reform or any of that crap, we're voting for people WHO DON'T LIKE THE RIAA! YEAH!

God, I fear for the future of our country.

Yeah right, like any of the Politicians actually practice what they preach when it comes to fiscal responsibility, welfare reform and the rest of that happy crap.

Is that 60 million people worldwide, or in the US?
And that was 50 million for the president. There are other parties as well.
Not all the population is eligable to vote anyway, whereas pretty much anyone could learn to "pirate" music.

My point was that people who would base their voting habits on a single characteristic probably aren't the brightest or the most talented individuals.

Hey man, nice shot:) Of course that probably explains why we had Bush vs Gore in 2000.

My point is that those who support the RIAA's heavy handed tactics support intrusive government, are influenced by the RIAA's Lobby instead of their constituents and tend to be too Orwelian for my liking.

Now, see, here's a man who puts some real thought into his voting habits. Kudos!

I support an overhaul of the DMCA and supporting legislation, and a full investigation of RIAA tactics and methods - see if they violate Fair Use clauses or any privacy laws. Other than that, I can't say I have a strong position one way or another.

Listening to music is enjoyable.....voting isn't really that fun is it? ;)

I am certain that's 60 million just in the US....there must be at least 10 times that worldwide.

The RIAA will just buy whoever is in the office at that time, they make money enough to do that.

Oh wait... I meant: they don't make half as much money as they're entitled to!

And any of them that you can consider technologically literate probably do pirate music on a constant basis, and can get away with it cuz they flash the cash to the RIAA.

I wanna move to Canada...

Nope, international piracy on the open seas is still a problem, particularly in Asia, around the Straits of Malacca (think I spelled that right) among other places. They don't just prey on small ships either, sometimes taking large cargo vessels and "relieving" them of their cargo.

He's right there....but it's not modern pirates who listen to pirated music.....it's the more old fashioned swashbucklers who do.

RIAA uses "New Math" when producing numbers

According to them each song shared in a P2P is worth about a thousand dollars
