Music mixing/editing software

Any good music mixing/editing software that's actually fun to use, even for an idiot? I like to mess around with stuff like that. Any reccomendations for programs? I really don't know anything about music mixing, just wanna mess around a bit. Was hoping to find a fun program like that.

Speaking of music/mixing/editing software, I use GoldWave for a few things here and there. I'm sure it has some very nice features, but I'm not a music/editing expert, so I guess some of the other anandtech-ers can recommend you more.

P.S. Shouldn't we have a separate forum for "Sound" ....like sound cards, mixing/editing and all the sound stuff!

I hate fruityloops, it's very complicated and everything sounds midi-ish. Thanks for the replies though.

great free audio editor:Audacity
even better, but not free are Acid Pro and Soundforge.

Have access to a newer Mac? GarageBand has been a kick.

are you looking for premade loops, or to play around with software samplers/synthesizers?
there is this awesome freeware program that i use called buzz, www.buzzmachines.com, totally no spyware or anything. don't let the interface intimidate you it is actually really intuitive - every function is right there and can be easily automated and all the signal routing is really easy too. it is just mostly text-based for the seqeucning so a lot of people don't get it... but if u give it a chance and like it, it is super rad. it also has really good support for VST instruments.
it is a little buggy but if you are interested send me PM an I will send u some good links on it, and the forum at the site I just linked u to is a really good resource.

oh and if you're looking for just mixing, there is another great freeware program called Kristal that is all about recording and mixing .... its pretty basic but really easy to use if you take 10 minutes and read their manual.... kreatives.org
