Music Downloaders... Orrin Hatch wants to "DESTROY" your computer!

Kerr predicted it was "extremely unlikely" for Congress to approve a hacking exemption for copyright owners, partly because of risks of collateral damage when innocent users might be wrongly targeted.

"It wouldn't work," Kerr said. "There's no way of limiting the damage."

What a moron..

maybe if they gave us a way to purchase music at a good price @ a good bitrate online... then nobody would have a problem with it...

stupid retards...

BTW, before anyone says "Apple has that", please reread the bolded part. 😛

Hatch has been losing it more and more lately. These comments and his support for increasing PATRIOT Act powers are very un-Mormon-like.

ohh increasing the patriot act is a good thing. Without it, there would be no way to defend against terrorism. And so far, its stood up to every court case thrown at it.

If hes gonna try and do that, I say we push to install a simular device in his car that causes it to self destruct the 3rd time he speeds...

There's a little term called "innocent until proven guilty" that Mr Hatch is forgetting about. Hmm, we think you were trading files, so we kill your PC. Where's the middle part, where I actually get a fair trial for what I'm accused of?

What happens when they implement this, accidently destroy an innocent person's PC, a PC with valuable business info on it? I can see the lawsuits now...

Yeah, what the hell is this guy thinking? It's like saying it's ok if you think someone stole your lawn gnome, you can go shoot them in the leg. We have laws and courts and police for a reason, it's not our job to enforce the law. Personally I think ANY lawmaker who even mentions things like this that clearly go against the constitution should be impeached automatically and forced to live in Iran so they can come to appreciate what freedom is really about.

Even for this staunch Republican, I think Hatch is way over the line with this.

Until someone can explain the difference between peer to peer downloading of music and making cassette copies to distribute to friends (which may or may not be illegal, but surely isn't pursued by the RIAA), then I just don't buy the RIAAs case.

Don't some papers signed a while back talk about the presumption of innocence, due process of the law, and unreasonable searches and seizures. Very scarey when a senator of Hatch's stature thinks destroying private property without any due process is ok.

On behalf of Republicans, I to would like to apologize for this moron.
