I went with a guy from work mostly to see Disturbed. I knew next to nothing about the other bands: Killswitch Engage, Lacuna Coil, and Chimera.

Disturbed was awesome, which was expected, but I was VERY pleasantly surprised by Lacuna Coil -- that girl has some incredible vocals (and a smoking body!). They're releasing an album next week, and I think I might pick it up.

I thought Chimera sucked, and it was not readily apparent that they had any talent except to produce loud noise and distorted, unintelligible lyrics. KSE had a couple good songs where I could tell they had some talent, but they seemed to follow Chimera's model of maximum noise with unintelligible lyrics in the others.

Worth waiting through the opening acts for Disturbed though. I haven't been to any concerts in a long time and enjoyed it. I was glad I was in the seats though and not in the general admission crowd. I'm too old for that garbage already. ;)

Anyone seeing the show or seen the show already?

That tour is coming through in a month. I'm debating going or not. I used to be into hard rock but just can't find myself enjoying it anymore.

If you like Disturbed, I'd recommend it. It's a great show. All told including taxes and fees, my ticket was $50.

Yeah, I caught it on the 4th.

I fully agree with your assessment of Chimera - not impressed with them at all.

If you dug Lacuna Coil, you might want to check out their Karmacode CD. Also agree about the vocalist.

I haven't ever been a big KSE fan, but was impressed with the show they put on. Of course, when they played Holy Diver I felt old, because the last time I saw it perfomed live was when I saw Dio do it. :) Did the guitarist keep doing beer bongs at your show too?

And yeah, Disturbed always seems to put on a good show, and if the supporting acts are worth it, I will always go check them out.

What is it like when Dan Donegan does a guitar solo? They don't have a rhythm player I thought... I know on the CDs he plays the solos and rhythm parts. I was interested in how it sounds live.

I didn't notice any difference between live and recorded for the guitar parts -- the solos were incredible. I love solid guitar work, and that's one of the reasons I thought KSE and Chimera were sub-par because you couldn't hear ANY particular parts of anything, just noise.

FWIW Chimera doesn't fit into that show at all. I was dumbfounded when I heard they were touring with Disturbed and all the rest. If you like Disturbed and Lacuna Coil, you probably won't like Chimera as much. And if you're a metalhead who likes Chimera, you won't like the rest of the show much.
