Music and video to HDTV -- Options?

OK, the new Chromecast is out but it is limited to sending video from the internet and won't mirror what's on your PC, smartphone or tablet. What options are there if you want to:

1. Play music and video from a Windows (Win7) PC?

2. Play music and video from an Android device (phone tablet)?

Lets say you wish to do this without hooking up cables to the PC, smartphone or tablet. What device would you need to have plugged into the HDMI port on your TV or receiver?
