im looking into what ram to get with my upgrade in the coming weeks, and i cant decide which to go with. both are good brands, and muskin mentions that it has heat spreaders with no such mention from crucial. i would think think this puts mush a tid bit ahead in my book.

any comments?

They both perform about the same. Get whichever one is cheaper. I'm going to get some Corsair PC2400 in about a month.

stay with crucial if you don't know what you need.

256mb Mushkin Basic PC2100 $ 34
this one is nothing special, better to get Crucial PC2100 cl2.5 for same price.

256mb PC2400 DDR SDRAM $ 62
this one is for overclocker, if you want the memory guaranteed to be able to run at 150Mhz.

256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM w/ Hyundai (Hynix) chips $ 65
this one is nothing special, just for sure Hyundai chips on it, you can almost buy two Crucial PC2100 cl2.5 for at this price. (Crucial is Micron, Micron is US ram, Hyundai is Korean ram, they're both good in ram, draw game)

256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM SPECIAL $ 64
diito

256MB High Performance DDR SDRAM 222 $ 122
this one has the lowest latency, the performance difference in 0.5 cas latency doesn't justify the huge price difference. for this price, you can almost buy four Crucial PC2100 cl2.5.

it was my understanding that the 2400 memory is not really higher performance, just higher tolerance for overclocking. it apparently has a higher latency than pc2100, so its really not better until you overclock it 🙂

besides until people figure out how much those palomino 1.6s overclock, who can tell if i will need the extra headroom.

If you have the money, I'd suggest getting some PC2400 just so you have the RAM ready when you get the CPU. I've heard that the Corsair PC2400 can easily do PC2700 CL2.

Good advice. BTW, everybody runs Crucial at 2-2-2 with no difficulty, and mine is running at a FSB of 145 at 2-2-2 with no problems at all.
