On newegg, the Cas is suppose to be 2.5. however, according to cpu-z, my cas says it is 3.0. all the memory settings on the motherboard's bios are at default. do i need to adjust something? will newegg let me return the ram since their info is incorrect? thanks.

Set the CAS to 2.5 and see if it runs stable. If not, IMO you would be justified with an RMA.

how would i "set" the cas to 2.5? shouldn't the ram run a cas of 2.5 at default?

so the ram defaults at cas 3.0 but i can change the bios settings to run it in 2.5. however, isn't the ram technically a cas 3.0? newegg lists the ram cas as 2.5. currently, im running memtest and received 1 error so far. should i try to rma the ram?

Um yes. ERrors = bad.

Corsair VS boots normally @ 2.5.

looks like i'll be trading them in for some cosair VS. will newegg let me exchange items and pay the difference?

can i return the ram just based on the fact that newegg's cas specs are incorrect and not get charged for the 15% restocking fee? isn't it their fault that the specs are wrong?

Just call Newegg and explain the situation and tell them you received errors on memtest. They will RMA it, and most likely exchange it for the Corsair with no penalties.

i just emailed newegg if they would accept an exchange for different brands.

They sent you the wrong memory. This happened to me also with newegg. There are two types of Mushkin "Basic Green" memory. Newegg carries both types (CAS 2.5 and CAS 3.0) and they are priced differently. The only problem is that they look virtually identical unless you look at the tiny serial#'s so it's possible the person who did the packing simply made a mistake. Newegg should not hold this against you with a restocking fee.
