Mushkin Memory Question!!!!

Ok, i bought a 128mb infineon 133 mhz stick of ram from mushkin a while ago. This is cas 3 ram. I run it in my k7m at cas 2 with no problems. Now, i want to upgrade my memory with another 128 mb stick. I noticed that their cas 2 memory is only 8 bucks more than the infineon memory. Is it ok if i mix that cas 2 memory and the cas 3 memory if they both run at cas 2 (100mhz fsb). Also, i plan on upgradin my mb to a mb that supports 133mhz for the memory. Will i be able to run the cas 3 memory at cas 2 133mhz, or is this not possible.

You will not be able to get the Cas 3 stick to run at Cas 222 @ 133MHZ. It probably just won't do it. Otherwise it would have been sold as a Cas 2 stick.
Sell the Cas 3 stick and buy a good Cas 222 stick and run at 133MHZ.

Regardless of what the others have stated, you should NOT have a problem mixing the memory. However I would get another stick of Infineon if I were you. It is some of the best memory on the market (and underrated), and should run 140+ cas2 all day long.

i have to agree with John. Not all infineon is created the same but if your lucky like me you will find out infineon makes some damm good memeory for a decent price. I currently have a stick that will do 150 at cas2, yet is only rated 133 At cas3. Keep in mind though there are no guarentee's as i bought five sticks yesterday andnot one would do 150 @ cas2. I have not though found a stick that wouldn't at least do 133 at cas2.

wtf, i got people telling me it won't work at 133mhz cas 2 and others tellin me it will!!! is there a good chance of gettin it to work at 133mhz cas 2 or not????

A very good chance, infineon makes some really nice chips. Check this out.

The people telling you otherwise havent mentioned any firsthand experience, but the ones that are saying it might, have. I too have had firsthand experience with a stick of the same stuff you have it it runs fine with all the highest performance settings at 133Mhz on my friend's KT7 system that I put together for him.

I had some Infineon PC100 that did 140 cas2 if that tells you anything....

FWIW, I run my mushkin Siemens-Infineon ram at Cas 2 and have run it at 129 MHz on my MSI-6309 with P!!! 600E. I think it is good stuff and would suggest buying that since it should match that which you already have. I think mixing it could cause more problems than buying the same brand/rating.

Unfortunately, both mixing and overclocking memory are unpredictable propositions, particularly on AMD boards. That's why you are getting contradictory answers.

The only sure thing is that any two matched sticks of Mushkin will run together as advertised, after that, consult the tarot or the magic 8-ball. My guesses:

Your infineon and cas2pc133 will probably work together at cas2/100mhz, and may work together at cas3/133mhz.

Your infineon probably will not work at all at cas2/133mhz.

Call Mushkin, the few times I spoke with them they were quite knowledgeable of their product and very helpful.

" it might work at cas 3 133mhz"

ok "jhnn" you obviously didnt read my post, i bought infineon cas 3 133mhz ram. Anyway to everyone else that replied THANKS!! i feel much better now because i just tested my memory on a friend's comp. and it works all the way up to 140 mhz cas 2. Great stuff!!!!!

I read it, alright. You misquoted me. Be nice, try again.

And yes, the infineon is nice stuff in any speed grade.

Better to be pleasantly surprised when things work together than to be disappointed when they don't match expectations.

I would not want anyone to buy components that won't work for them, and you still don't know for sure that the two sticks will work together at 133mhz, right? I intended no offense, just wanted to let you know that there is some risk involved in what you intend to do.

Peace.
