Mushkin Basic Green 512MB vs. Kingston ValueRam 512MB

Ok, the Mushkin RAM (CL2.5) runs for $96 per 512MB stick and the Kingston RAM (CL3) is $87.99 per 512 stick plus it has a $15 mail-in-rebate on it.

My question is.....

Is there really that much of a difference? Is there a general preference between the two? I'm building my first AthlonXP system and plan to do a bit of overclocking (not extreme though), so which one would be best for me. I was reading something that CL3 RAM is good for overclocking?!? Is that correct? If so, could someone explain how that is?

Thanks for the input.

🙂

I would go with the Kingston. Some may argue the better latencies will make your computer run faster - but probably not $22 faster.

Youve got it backwards, lower latencies are better for overclocking.

That's what I was thinking, but in my sleep deprived state, a piece of a forum post got engrained into my memory and I couldn't shake it. I now know it was a very bad dream. 🙂

So how well will that Kingston RAM do when it comes to overclocking a Barton?

Got the Mushkin a few months ago at $82. Been rock solid stable with an OC'd mobile 2400+. But, really, I don't think there's any significant difference in quality between the two.
