Birds and bees may be gay: museum exhibition

The birds and the bees may be gay, according to the world's first museum exhibition about homosexuality among animals.

With documentation of gay or lesbian behavior among giraffes, penguins, parrots, beetles, whales and dozens of other creatures, the Oslo Natural History Museum concludes human homosexuality cannot be viewed as "unnatural."

"We may have opinions on a lot of things, but one thing is clear -- homosexuality is found throughout the animal kingdom, it is not against nature," an exhibit statement said.

Geir Soeli, the project leader of the exhibition entitled "Against Nature," told Reuters: "Homosexuality has been observed for more than 1,500 animal species, and is well documented for 500 of them."

One exhibit shows two stuffed female swans on a nest -- birds sometimes raise young in homosexual couples, either after a female has forsaken a male mate or donated an egg to a pair of males.

One photograph shows two giant erect penises flailing above the water as two male right whales rub together. Another shows a male giraffe mounting another for sex, another describes homosexuality among beetles.

One radical Christian said organizers of the exhibition -- partly funded by the Norwegian government -- should "burn in hell," Soeli said. Laws describing homosexuality as a "crime against nature" are still on the statutes in some countries.

Greek philosopher Aristotle noted apparent homosexual behavior among hyenas 2,300 years ago but evidence of animal homosexuality has often been ignored by researchers, perhaps because of distaste, lack of interest or fear or ridicule.

Bonobos, a type of chimpanzee, are among extremes in having sex with either males or females, apparently as part of social bonding. "Bonobos are bisexuals, all of them," Soeli said.

No word yet on an exhibit of the Closetus Homosexualis Republicanis in his natural habitat mating with his interns.

This is yet another case of the Gay agenda corrupting all things natural. /sarcasm

Why is this even an issue anymore? It's like some people need to be smacked in the face with a brick before they will finally concede that it was a brick in the first place.

I wouldn't put any weight on Aristotle's gay hyena sighting because female hyena's have a pseudo penis that could be mistaken for the real thing.

Why not put exhibits up in museums of incest amongst animals while you are at it. I have seen dogs *@(# their siblings before, im sure it happens in other species as well. Not that I am comparing homosexuality to incest, more like I think it is a dumb idea for a museum exhibit.

?And a study of homosexual men in Italy suggested that their mothers and sisters had more offspring. "The same genes that give homosexuality in men could give higher fertility among women," he said.?

Which genes are they talking about?

Well there is an offshoot species of chimps that are totally consumed by sex, they rub genitals together as a greeting. There is also sex between siblings and same sex. It's really not all that uncommon in nature. Anyone who studies nature doesn't buy into Right's demonization of homosexuality.

As a side note, male dolphins will attempt to hump swimmers at times.

Inter and intra species killings are also very common in nature...there is no moral or ethical framework that prevents one animal from killing another, usually with survival of the fittest being the order of the day.

I am not making an argument for or against homosexuality...I am simply pointing out there are some inherent dangers to modeling human morality against what we observe in the animal kingdom.

Animals exhibit many behaviors that parallel those found in human society, and vice versa...similarly, what is "right" or "acceptable" in nature may not be acceptable under the human construct of society.

That being said, I do not think there is anything unnatural or immoral about homosexuality...it simply is what it is.

"U.S. citizens have been dumbed-down by years of collectivist drivel taught in schools. Forced into feeling rather than thinking, Americans are at a crossroads. We have become tolerant instead of judicious and fair; inclusive instead of discerning; filled with self-esteem instead of intelligence and wisdom."

agreed

As long as we understand that all the gay Animals will go to hell---and face eternal damination.

And all the straight animals will go to paradise and be rewarded with eternal life after they die.

Such is the message the religious who advocate punishing Gay or Lesbians humans out of existance have to also offer to be logically consistant

A rather hard case to make when you think about it.

Me---when it comes down to gay, lesbian or straight cows---I notice that FDA did not so specify on the package of meat---and the steaks cook quite nicely thank you either way.
And right now thats what I am doing---multitasking---cooking and posting at the same time.
