Muramasa - Worth playing both characters?

I'm pretty close to beating the game with the girl and wanted to know if it's worth it to play the other character. Is it just the same, or does it complete another 1/2 of the game?

I does unlock more swords, and while I can't confirm it, I heard that the boy's story is more compelling overall.

Both characters play different routes and different stories (both happening simultaneously). Upon completing the game with both characters you have access to the full map, access to the optional bosses, you can get the other endings and can keep grinding to do the higher level shrines. I say go for it, as the 2nd playthrough will be much faster than the first. You can also start sharing weapons once you beat each story once I believe.
