multithreading in TF2

It has been a while since I played a HL2 based game and I don't remember there being an option for multithreading before. What exactly does this do and should I enable it on my system? It is off by default.

Definitely enable it. It increases performance by a large amount in extremely hectic firefights. In my benchmark test with multicore off vs on, I went from 68.09fps average to 96.18fps average in an extremely crowded fight scene.

I've seen benchmarks where performance decreases with it. Didn't seem to effect performance on my system though.

To me, it seems like it slightly decreased overall performance, but made it so that my system doesn't choke up during extremly crowded events.

I'll take the performance hit so that things don't freeze up during intense fights.

okay sounds good thanks. on a side note I don't understand what all the fuss is about with TF2. seems like everyone plays it but for some reason I can't get into it. I think classic dm and other shooters are more my style.

My performance decreased with it enabled, and I get all sorts of stuttering, all comes back smooth and normal when I disable it.
