Hello
ive recently just made a system up

Gigabyte GA-8I945PMF
Intel D820 Dual Pro
1GB Crossir Memory
256 GeForce 6600
Pioneer 110D Dvd Writer
Sony CDR
480wat RTYPE Power Suply
XP

Ive just noticed since updating the bios that i cant multitask the well, eg, when i have serval folders open, downloading, serving the net, it comes to a point were i cant open up any more windows or even right click on a link with my mouse, iam not sure if this was a problem before updating the bios, i just dont know, anyone have any ideas?
thanks
david

I assume you mean P-D 820 dual core, right??? Not sure about that D820 dual pro stuff....

Try falshing back to the old bios...It sounds lke perhaps the HDDs got switched off of DMA perhaps or have been degraded by the bios...Do you have a Network card?? is it a chance it is conitinuously accessing??? look at task manager to see if something is bogging down the resources...ram and cpu cycles that is...

its a Intel 820 dual pro and i have 2 network cards, 1 for my broadband and other to network up, this one is not connected, i also have sata 3 drive attacted. ive noticed another version of the bios out, version 3 i have version 2, question is , do i go for 3 or 1?
cheers

Try 3 first then 1......

Intel 820 dual pro...no such thing sorry...do a google search...we are talking semantics here, but correctly stated beyond what some moron retailer may have called it (no pro included) it is a Intel P-D 820 Dual Core processor....I would hardly call this a pro version versus the XE line that has HT. This line does not have HT.

sorry by pro i meant processor, and in the uk its not labled P-D 820 its labled Intel Pentium D Processor, D820 for short, besides, this is the least of my wories, lol, think ive sorted the problem out, my bios had HT Enable and as you know dual processor dont have this, so this might be the problem.

thanks for all replies

If that doesnt work, a good way for insight might be finding a program that monitors both cores activity and watching/logging that when you encounter problems.

what? turning off HT in bios fixed the problem? or are you saying that HT needed to be turned on to fix your problems, because the 820D doesn't have HT...

Well since we are talking semantics here...... there is no XE line, it's EE 😀

That may be perfectly true but at least I can find where ppl actually call it that....

I dont know if it is wrong. I definitely see how they got XE and not to truely confuse it with the EE acronym theu have already used with the P4 single cores (as a designation of core with more cache)...

eXtreme Edition is where most are getting XE....

Update: Intel's site....

http://indigo.intel.com/compare_cpu/default.aspx?familyid=1&culture=en-US

I was hard pressed to see where they ever called it EE themselves...look at how they spell the whole thing out \and then place an X on the logo....

Update #2:

pricewatch no vendor calls it an EE just spells the whole thing out....1 vendor on pricegrabber does but for the most part I find opteron 840 EE...I think it is their uber low voltage model....

So it appears the review sites and others for sake of convenience have created the acronyms....The XE makes more sense as not to confuse itself with previous EE models perhaps...plus previous EE models was not a designation denoting existence of HT but extended cache or added L3 cache....

AT doesn't call it EE...he spells the whole thing out like the vendors.... http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2410&p=6

I think AMD has a better model numbering system that may not confuse ppl....INtel uses D for dual core yet some Intel celeron models use a D as well and are not dual core...Their number system makes little or no sense...
