i will be using this pc to multitask, therefore i think i need a dual core processor. maybe opteron 165? the video card could be somewhere around 6600GT? for harddisk, i don't think i need more than 160GB. what about ram? and case and powersupply and all the good stuff? thanks for reading.

I think he'd be better of buying an el-cheap video card instead of dropping the CPU. If he wants to game, it would be better to buy a nicer video card later than be stuck with a single core CPU for multitasking usage.

Before you buy a Dual Core processor think about this:

1. What will be the advantage? What quantifiable improvement will you see? i.e. Look at some Charts.

2. If you took that extra money and spent it on a faster single core processor, would you still have better performance?

3. What OS will take full advantage of a dual care processor the best? I wonder if it is possible to take full advantage of a dual core processor without Symmetrical Multitasking Software. What do the experts say?

Still if you think you want to do it and you have the money it is a free country in most places.

You're already $100 over budget not buying any inferior parts. The Opteron 165 would put you $25 more over that if you could even find a place with it in stock. Unless you want to buy a 'do-for-now' video card and buy a nice one later, I'd recommend seeing if you can even swing that list I made.
