Multitasking and video cards

Does your video card have anything to do with performance in multitasking? I'm a developer and run various IDEs but also play games on my box too (TF2/WoW mostly which I run in windowed mode so I can keep an eye on other monitors)

Just wondering if there's anything to do with 3d rendering games and other apps. Does having 1 card for each monitor make a difference or only the card that is powering the 3d game is all that matters?

I was thinking SLI for the gaming monitor and another card to run my 2 other monitors. I'm trying to get rid of the annoying delay/lag when min/maximizing a window and/or swaping to another screen via ultramon

Probably depends on the OS and drivers, and maybe the priorities for whatever processes you are running.

I'm not sure why having a 3D game in background would affect 2D performance. It's probably CPU usage that's killing your desktop and window manager performance, not 2D GPU performance. You can try setting the game process to lowest priority and see if anything happens.

thanks ill give that a try, and what i really wanted to thank you for was that LCD thread i saw in your sig, that is amazing ty for all of that info!
