Multisample Adaptive AA in Catalyst 7.11

Looks like Multisample Adaptive AA finally made its way into the Catalyst drivers, with an interesting Smoother <-> Sharper slider. Anyone tried it yet?

It was there in 7.10's, I think there was a post on Rage3d comparing it, I'm sure if you google adaptive AA you'll find something along those lines 🙂. Off the top of my head though, Multisample 'sharp' looks just as good as Supersample 'quality' IMO, I didn't notice any significant performance difference but I guess it depends on situation/app.

FYI, nVidia improved their TrMS on G80 cards with the 8800 GT?s launch driver but not many websites picked up on this.

It was probably improved in anticipation to ATi's actions now.

ATI's multisample adaptive AA was superior to Nvidia's. Nividia fixed this with g92 however but the inferiority persists with older than g92.

Until recently ATi didn?t have multi-sampling except through unofficial means. Performance AAA is super-sampling so of course it looked better.

As for super-sampling, nVidia has been superior on that front for quite a while. It works properly in more games, anti-aliases for longer distances and doesn't cause fine details to disappear.
