Looks like Multisample Adaptive AA finally made its way into the Catalyst drivers, with an interesting Smoother <-> Sharper slider. Anyone tried it yet?
It was there in 7.10's, I think there was a post on Rage3d comparing it, I'm sure if you google adaptive AA you'll find something along those lines 🙂. Off the top of my head though, Multisample 'sharp' looks just as good as Supersample 'quality' IMO, I didn't notice any significant performance difference but I guess it depends on situation/app.
Sylvanas: Yes, you are right, it came out with the 7.10s. Someone in the Tweakguides forums made a few good screenshots comparing quality: http://forums.tweakguides.com/...hp?p=74759&postcount=3
From what I see in Oblivion, the feature didn't improve between 7.10 and 7.11. Speed under multisample adaptive AA is just as bad as supersample mode.
Until recently ATi didn?t have multi-sampling except through unofficial means. Performance AAA is super-sampling so of course it looked better.
As for super-sampling, nVidia has been superior on that front for quite a while. It works properly in more games, anti-aliases for longer distances and doesn't cause fine details to disappear.
