Multiple XBox 360 systems - which for grandkids

Have been requested to get a XBox360 for grandchildren by my daughter
7yr old, 3yr boy.

Quick look via Froogle shows multiple packages.
Last year, I added a Kinect package to a previous 360 that was 4 years old for a son

this is what I have discovered and am unsure how to proceed in choosing.

• Microsoft Xbox 360 4GB Console with Kinect Game console - Primary functions satisfied
• Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite System Game console - No Kinect - Larger drive
• Microsoft Xbox 360 250 GB S Console Game console - Kinect w/ larger drive (+$150)

I have noticed that some will package games and the price is different - that issue I can easily research.

It is the determination of the physical configuration that I am trying to determine.

I think that it boils down to:
Is the Elite/S systems worth the premium over the standard system for my needs? Age of the children and the games that they will play on it (allowed to play) over the next 3-4 years.

Elite is an older obsolete version, you don't want that.

List price for bundles with Kinect are $299 (4 GB) and $399 (250 GB). Deals should get you a pack-in game or two and maybe a $50 store gift card.

The hard drive allows installing games to the disk so that the DVD drive doesn't spin all of the time. Some DVD drives are very loud, and also spinning throughout game play could increase the risk of a scratched disk.

If installed to the hard drive you still need to put the disk in for copy protection, but then it's just a disk check. Another minor benefit is if a disc gets scratched up after it is installed, it only needs to be readable enough to pass the disc check.

For the 4 GB version, they'd probably need a 16 GB USB Flash drive (any brand is fine) for storing downloaded content.

If the extra cost isn't a big deal for your budget, the 250 GB version will be a little easier to use (no worries about running out of space, less chance of unplayable discs) and a bit less noisy. They'd be OK with the 4 GB version though.

the large hard drive is only required if they will be downloading lots o digital content , which i can't imagine they will be. Smaller hard drive + kinect for the youngins imo.

as he said above you can use a $17 16gb usb stick if they need more space down the road.

So it looks like the holiday HDD package adds $100
Kinect also adds $100.

hopefully those offsets will be less come Friday

Walmart has the 4 gig + kinect combo + $50 gift card for $199. That's the best deal out there IMHO if you don't *need* the space. If you do require more space then the $199 250 gig holiday packs at Best Buy and Sam's Club + $100 kinect stand alone is a good option.

One other perk about the holiday bundle + kinect stand alone is that you get 4 extra games. Halo Reach and Fable 3 come with the Xbox. Gunstringer and Fruit Ninja come with the Kinect. That sort of puts it over the edge for me. The HD alone is almost $100 value.

I think disk space and installed components are just going to continue to grow so paying for the disk space up front is the way to go if the $300 price isn't too much.

If the games are for older kids; they can always be handed off to the first set of grandkids.

Now to see if BB if offering anything along side the bundle as an incentive against Sam's Club. :biggrin:

One thing I must say about Star Wars Kinect, it has probably the most awesome thing I've ever seen in a video game.

It supposedly has control issues though so maybe skip it and get one of the proper dancing games.
