Helping a friend build an experiment to see how much you can absorb through "osmosis".

Basically the subject will sit in front of 6-8 screens with different things playing ie documentary on different subjects, ie ww2, biology, like the things you see on discover channel.

After an hour, they will be asked specific questions about the documentary. Anyone ever took place in one of these experiments before ? How much can you really absorb if any about what you see and hear from multiple sources ?

So my job is to build a set of pc or pcs to play 6-8 different video at the same time. I'm not really familiar with video playing technology but it seems windows media player can only play 1 file at a time, any other video player can play multiple wmv at the same time ? I think quicktime can play multiple files at the same time but dont really remember.. Anyone did this type of video play back before ?

Reminds me of the vulcan test / school?

It would be easier to launch multiple instances of VLC, or something like that.

Ok great, do you think like a single quad core with 8gb memory can do it or I need more processing power, ie having 2 pc, ie each pc does 3-4

No idea really, but I think it would work on a single machine. Keep the bitrates low, and you can do more on a single box. It doesn't sound like you're after fine detail here, and having 12 videos on a single display will necessitate smaller video size, so you don't need a ton of pixels.
