Multiple users in Win98? Help

Zorba

Lifer
Well I am just about to move to the dorms, and I want to protect my computer a little bit. What I'd like to do is have one user (me) who can do anything I want, and another user (my roommate) who can get on and look at my stuff, and listen to my music, but can't change anything. Other than that I don't want anyone to be able to get on my computer. My problem is, I have the two usernames setup, but I don't know how to restrict access from my roommate and I don't know how to keep someone from making their own username on start (You know just type in a new name with a new password)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Win98 is a peer to peer OS and by nature not very secure. Try forcing a password on startup from BIOS. Then share that password with your roomate. rememberto always shut down the PC after use. Left on, anyone can do anything to it.

I recommend you upgrade to XP so you have better security and you can control log on and and users, and do file protection. It would solve alot of those issues. IMHO😉
